Barrydale is known for its interesting mix of shops and now we have something innovative for health conscious people. Wheatless Wonders opened doors to the public last week and aims fill a gap in the market, catering for those who cannot or prefer not to eat wheat.
Dora du Toit and her daughter Helena dos Santos are pleased that they “cannot bake their bread fast enough” as it is snapped up fresh out of the oven. Dora, who trained as a chef in Switzerland, learned about healthy eating after an illness. She says the change of diet saved her life and she would like to provide a healthy alternative which she believes is much needed.
Their range will include bread, cakes, éclairs, scones, savouries such as lasagne, home made pasta, prawn rissoles and quiches. They are happy to bake to order and will also carry a vegetarian range. Birthday parties will also be catered for. The shop is situated next to the new Internet Cafe on Route 62. Phone 028 5721277 or 0768468725.
